MOTHER’S DAY JEWELLERY GIFT GUIDE AND HOW I’M SIMILAR TO MY MOM

Mother’s Day is a beautiful holiday not yet widely celebrated in Russia, but in the UK it’s a chance to honour these wonderful women, our extraordinary mothers. So let’s shower them with love and jewels! I’ve put together a sparkly Mother’s Day Gift Guide just for you (and your mum!)

I’m lucky to have many things in common with my dear mom. Even though I’ve been living away from home since I was 16, my genetics still play a major role and I’m proud that they do. Here are five facts I love about my relationship with my mom:

  1. We have the same size in shoes and clothes! How convenient is that? There’s no excuses when we borrow each other’s clothes!
  2. My mom is a hard-working woman. When I was growing up she was always on the go and loved travelling for work. It’s a passion I obviously inherited from her.
  3. But when it comes to shopping, we couldn’t be more different! The longer she takes to decide on a purchase, I’m already out the door with mine!
  4. We are both huge foodies! We’ll shop in 10 different delis for 10 different products just to ensure each one is organic, fresh and tastes the best! We love dining at our favourite restaurants together like Yauatcha in London.
  5. And the greatest thing of all, we never fight!

But everyone’s mom is unique and special, and deserves something beautiful and sentimental for Mother’s Day. Here are some of my top gift ideas:

BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERY

A birthstone to bring more positive energy into your mom’s life. A birthstone makes a wonderful gift and there’s an intriguing story behind it too. As you’re presenting your mom with her beautiful birthstone jewel, share with her this story: Once there was a powerful high priest who wore a splendid breastplate adorned with 12 gemstones of great beauty. Each stone represented the birth of 12 noble sons from 12 respected tribes. When astrology gave birth to the zodiac, these 12 gemstones came to represent each birth sign and bestowed healing and special powers upon the wearer. Isn’t that a great story?

Hint: If your mom’s birthday is in May, like mine, check out my Emerald Shopping Guide!

BIRTHSTONE JEWELLERY IDEAS:

MATCHING JEWELLERY

Many of us had friendship bracelets when we were kids, but have you ever considered matching jewellery with your mom? It’s a great way to commemorate that special (invisible) connection we have with our mothers. (And a nice way to spoil yourself a little bit too!) Choose something meaningful that represents a happy occasion you shared together. I love these signature lucky bracelets by Carolina Bucci. So reminiscent of the woven bracelets I wore as a child, but fine jewellery! To make a bond with your mom even stronger, consider eternal 18k bracelets with no clasps! You can get them woven directly onto your hands at Liberty London – a fun experience your mother have never done before!

MORE BEAUTIFUL JEWELS YOU CAN BUY ONLINE:

TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY

Lockets have been around since the Middle Ages and were worn as a reminder of a loved one. Lockets weren’t just pendants, they were rings and bracelets and other pieces of jewellery. They had an outer beauty but it was the inner secrets lying within that were so attractive. A locket is one of the most intimate pieces of jewellery a person can own and it holds great significance. Giving your mother a locket by Astley Clarke, Monica Rich, Vela or Devon Woodhill with a picture of you or a special secret you share is a beautiful way to stay connected, regardless of how far apart you live. It’s a lovely way to tell your mom how special she is, and she’ll love it!

5 GORGEOUS LOCKETS TO CONSIDER FOR MOTHER’S DAY NECKLACE GIFT IDEAS :

PEARL JEWELLERY

For Mother’s Day, pearl jewellery is a timeless classic. Representative of feminine beauty and self-confidence, a gift of pearls is a celebration of love. That lustrous glow that pearls have radiates beauty. Just ask many of my followers who loved the GEMOLOGUE Pearl Giveaway. Mothers are always the ones who want to share their love with everyone, and pearls will remind her just how much she is loved.

5 EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT PEARL JEWELLERY PRESENT IDEAS:

JEWELLERY BOOKS

Jewellery is not always the answer. Perhaps more affordable option, yet equally exquisite is a jewellery book. You can’t go wrong with it and a jewellery book will definitely add a special sparkle to the Mother’s Day! One of my favourite authors is jewellery historian Joanna Hardy and her Ruby: King of Gems book. If your mom is a fashionista like mine, GEMOLOGUE: Jewellery Street Styles & Styling Tips would be just right to update her on the latest jewellery trends! Discover my Best Jewellery Books of All Time article for more ideas.

LOVE ABOVE ALL JEWELLERY

Treat your mom to a day at the spa and above all, give her a big hug and a kiss! Gifts of jewellery are nice, but nothing is more valuable than showing your mom how much you truly care. Those precious moments spent together are worth more than material goods!

GET THE LOOK: PHU QUOC, KABANNG WEDDING

Weddings are in my list of favourite celebrations! Seeing the happy couple side-by-side on a special day, about to embark on a whole new adventure together is one of the best feelings ever! I recently got to experience it again, celebrating the love of Rushang and Kaabia.

In the paradise island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam, with three days of the Wedding Carnival ahead of us, I made sure I came prepared! For the second day wedding beach party I decided to go with stylish, yet comfortable Sophia Webster butterfly sandals. I am not a fan of changing shoes during an event – these sandals made sure I survived 12 hours of dancing, while I was still enjoying myself! Jewellery is also an important consideration for a wedding, especially earrings! I wore diamond wing earrings by AS29 – comfortable and a great complement for my outfit.

SHOP THE LOOK:

To comply with the Indo-western dress code I couldn’t help, but get a gorgeous henna done! I chose to go all shimmery with my outfit, pairing a silver Ganni dress with a silver choker by Michelle Lowe-Holder form her signature costume jewellery collection. Even my makeup was silver, accented with black eyeliner!

I decided to really have fun with accessories and wore a beautiful pearl Yvonne Léon ear cuff. Along with H. Stern, Mike Joseph and Brazilian heart-shaped crystal rings, it added a contemporary touch to my outfit. The cuff was holding on securely, so thankfully I had no chance of losing this gold mini french creation! Finishing off with a Bulgari backpack and a traditional Vietnamese hat I got the perfect combination of both comfortable and striking in one wedding guest outfit!
