“Talk to me Harry Winston! Tell me all about it!” Which is what I really wanted to say when I was invited to visit Harry Winston boutique to see his stunning collection of diamond engagement rings. It made me feel like singing like Marilyn Monroe in the 1953 classic, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I couldn’t agree with the starlet more – diamonds really are a girl’s best friend!
When you walk through the doors of Harry Winston in NYC (founded in 1932), you’ll find yourself in the Kingdom of Diamonds. There’s not a bride-to-be who hasn’t dreamed of wearing one of these legendary engagement rings. They truly capture the heart’s desire of every woman the world over.Harry Winston acquired his first-ever diamond in 1935. Known as the Jonker, the 726-carat uncut rough diamond made international news. Despite much talk about securely shipping the valuable gem to NYC, Mr. Winston took a chance on regular, registered mail for $0.64!
The first time I was lucky enough to view Harry Winston’s dazzling collection of engagement rings, it was in New York in 2009 when I was grading diamonds. Together with a select group of other women, I was invited to his secret office above the Fifth Avenue flagship store to explore the private vault of exceptional and valuable diamonds. Just three trays with three rings were brought out for us to see, valued at $500,000, $1,000,000 and $1,500,000. My heart stopped.
“The One” is the Harry Winston engagement ring for me. With a cushion-cut diamond surrounded by micropavé diamonds and set on a micropavé band, it’s a beautiful ring that captures the timeless glamour of Mr. Winston’s iconic style. Carefully handcrafted to showcase each diamond’s feminine beauty, The One is available in 1.00 to 3.50 carats set in platinum.
Are you a 1 or 3 carat type of girl?
