“Ruby’s fiery radiance, in all shades of red, has captivated the human imagination since the beginning of time… Ruby is not a gem for the faint-hearted, but for the brave and the bold.”
Recently, I attended the launch party at Somerset House for a dazzling new book from jewellery historian Joanna Hardy in collaboration with GEMFIELDS, Ruby: the King of Gems. This coffee table book is as lavishly illustrated as it is informative and is a great follow up to her equally stunning book on emeralds (Emerald: Twenty-one Centuries of Jewelled Opulence and Power).
Ruby: the King of Gems is a fascinating exploration of the previous stone and contains a dazzling array of images of ruby pieces worn by celebrities ranging from royalty to film stars, all alongside classic images of rubies from art, fashion and advertising. The book also showcases sixty of the world’s most significant and renowned pieces of ruby jewellery, including many previously unseen designs from royal and private collections. Additionally, Ruby offers practical guidance on what to look for in a quality ruby. This is certainly a must-have coffee table book for every jewellery lover!
